Why springs fail — and why they fail here first
Springs are rated in open/close cycles, typically 10,000 for builder-grade parts — about 7–10 years of normal family use. Arizona compresses that: extreme garage heat accelerates metal fatigue, so Valley springs often go early. When one spring of a pair breaks, the second carries the same age and stress; replacing both at once is standard practice and saves the second call-out.
Never DIY a torsion spring
A wound torsion spring stores enough energy to cause serious injury the instant a winding cone slips. This is the one garage door job with no safe amateur version. Our technicians replace springs with the door secured, spring rated to the door's measured weight, and finish with a balance test — the door should lift by hand, smoothly, one-handed.

Questions
Spring Replacement — FAQs
How do I know the spring is what broke?
A loud bang from the garage, a visible gap in the coil above the door, the door refusing to lift more than a few inches, or an opener that strains and gives up — any of these points to a spring.
One spring or two?
Two-spring doors should have both replaced together — the unbroken one is equally aged and will fail soonest exactly when you've just paid for the first. We'll show you both springs and let the condition speak.
What's a high-cycle spring?
A thicker-wire spring rated for 25,000+ cycles instead of 10,000. For heavy custom doors and busy family garages it's the cheaper option per year of life — we'll price both so the math is yours.
Is the door usable with a broken spring?
No — and running the opener anyway is how openers, cables and panels get wrecked in one go. Leave it down; we'll be there same-day.
